I am most grateful of Stereogum, who has been keeping a pretty sweet update of the Grizzle. Check out this quartet of live lullabies:
Ear Treats
What I like most about leGrizB is that they're incredibly selective. Their music is lyrically concise yet textually saturated, producing a type of romantically-accessible tight-rope trick. The common references are there, but if you're willing to put your ear to the ground, you're likely to get 'em burnt off--in a good way of course. Words aren't surrealist streams of consciousness nor are they sickly saccharine ballad rejects--they convey just enough to construct sonic skeletons of hyper-sensitive observations of a intimate, yet distant nature like a whisper magically articulate from miles away. The crowds in the Boston live tracks aren't nearly excited as they should be, it's kinda strange. My favorite moment in "Fine For Now" is when Ed Droste's vocal part (amid Danny Rossen's Neil Diamond moments) finally gets harmonic support. The entire song moves slowly like a stroll, not really going anywhere for any particular reason, and then, all of a sudden, you're floating.
Gorgeous.
Excuse me, please allow me to sew my face back together.
